ATTRACTIONS

Bodrum Castle

Nestled in the heart of Bodrum, the medieval fortress known as Bodrum Castle was erected in 1402 by the Knights of St. John. Originally named St. Peter Castle, according to Bodrum historian Herodotus, life in Bodrum dates back to B.C., beginning with the city founded by the Dorians around 1,000 in the area where the castle stands today. Over time, it has become an iconic symbol of Bodrum. Since 1960, the castle has hosted the "Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum," displaying artifacts retrieved from regional shipwrecks, offering an immersive view into the maritime history of the area.

Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, constructed in Halicarnassus by King Mausolos' wife and sister, Artemisia, stands among the Seven Wonders of the World. This expansive tomb, featuring a blend of Greek columns and an Egyptian pyramid-shaped roof, lent its name to all subsequent structures in a similar style, now collectively referred to as mausoleums. Today, the site operates as an open-air museum. Upon entry, a Bodrum-style house greets visitors on the right. The extensive structure on the left showcases reliefs, models, drawings related to the Mausoleum, and architectural elements of the building.
